The nature of “trans” ideology has shifted dramatically over the past few years, affecting individuals, families, churches, and society at large. This course explores the rapid evolution of transgender identity, the disconnect between sex and gender, and the medical controversies surrounding “transition” treatments. Learners will examine key theological, sociological, and pastoral considerations for ministering to those struggling with gender identity and for upholding biblical truth.
This course fulfills the following learning goals:
- Explain how the trans movement rapidly evolved and how current definitions differ from earlier understandings of gender dysphoria.
- Analyse the sociological and cultural shifts that contributed to disconnecting “sex” from “gender.”
- Describe the medical and psychological controversies surrounding transgender interventions, particularly for children.
- Evaluate biblical and pastoral responses that balance compassion with truth.
- Develop informed strategies for communicating about transgender issues in church, ministry, and personal relationships.
