About Course

Bob McCoskrie from family advocacy group Family First New Zealand will outline the recent debate and subsequent passing of a ‘conversion therapy’ ban in 2021 in New Zealand. He will explain what the new law says, the campaign opposing the law, the flaws in the law, and how the media & politicians handled the issue.

Proposed Learning Objectives

  • Articulate arguments for and against banning conversion therapy with respect to the New Zealand context
  • Summarise, with reference to examples provided, how the New Zealand media and local politicians responded to the debate
  • State what can be learned from the New Zealand context and experience of the ‘conversion therapy’ debate and ban
