About Course
Based on current trends, around 1 in 3 young adults (age 18-24) in the U.S. will never marry, and other Western nations have similar numbers. Yet traditional opposite-sex marriage is the institution which produces the greatest overall human flourishing as well as societal stability. Currently, 1 in 5 young adults in the U.S. identify as some non-heterosexual variation of LGBTQ+. Over one half of these identify as “bisexual.” Given that sexuality is demonstrably fluid and so many young people are wrestling with sexual and gender identity issues, I argue it is paramount that we accompany those struggling while anchored in Judeo-Christian anthropology and resist adopting sexual identity labels that limit or misguide the future life trajectory. Maturing in wholeness opens the possibility of marriage for many. Now in an effort not to give false promises, many offer no hope at all for healthy marriage for those who have struggled with SSA or had LGBT+ experiences. As I will demonstrate, this is not justified from the data. By refusing false labels, we help contend for the “open future” over the life course for those who have struggled.
